Nickerbacher and his father have a close relationship. And even though Papa Dragon knows his son will eventually make his own choices, he wants Nickerbacher to have a traditional job so he can be secure. Papa Dragon is old fashion, while Nickerbacher desires to break new ground. Their love grows even stronger by the end of the story because they learn to truly understand a viewpoint different from their own.
